As part of its commitment to help improve countries in the Global South, ADEC Innovations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) arm in championing internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.

ADEC Innovations’ President and Chief Executive Officer, James “Jim” Donovan, recently met with UNOSSC Director Yiping Zhou at the UN Headquarters in New York City for partnership to enhance and carry out the development activities set out for the 131 members of South-South Cooperation.

“For more than 30 years, ADEC Innovations has always provided innovative Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) solutions to numerous companies worldwide. With this new milestone, we are much honored to be part of such a huge cause with the UNOSSC to help improve developing countries. This is a challenge that we gladly accept, grateful and excited about,” Donovan said.

With the signing of the MOU, ADEC Innovations and the UNOSSC agreed to work in partnership to enhance and carry out the development activities set out for the 131 members of South-South Cooperation. This will be done through the two parties’ efforts to cooperate, consolidate and facilitate support architectures and technology transfer on South-South Cooperation’s member states, UN organizations and other Southern partners – including civil society, academia and the private sector.

ADEC Innovations and UN also agreed to achieve the Outcome No. 3 of the Strategic Framework of UNOSSC 2014-2017, which is “Innovative South-South, triangular and public-private partnerships and funding modalities marshal financial and in-kind resources that support the scaling up of the development impact of Southern solutions in meeting the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals,” through the expansion of the support and piloting of self-sustaining and South-owned knowledge networks, alliances, and/or centers of excellence in collaboration with the UN organizations, private sectors, and NGOs.The UNOSSC is a broad framework for collaboration among countries of the South in the political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and technical domains. Involving two or more developing countries, it can take place on a bilateral, regional, subregional or interregional basis. Developing countries share knowledge, skills, expertise and resources to meet their development goals through concerted efforts.

The inspiration to put forward a partnership surfaced during the Global South-South Development Expo last November 17-21, 2014 in Washington, D.C., which stakeholders from the South-South member countries showcased and discussed development solutions that are geared towards the achievement of sustainable development.

ADEC Innovations has committed to support the UN projects through its advocacy arm, ADEC Foundation which promotes the advancement of people and planet by working closely with stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society, multilaterals, and the United Nations.
